Reading detectives

Lovers of literature subconsciously interrogate text as they read. It’s a handy skill to pass on to your new reading detectives.

What do we know, what do we think?

Inference and deduction are key skills that children need to hone to help them understand texts and enjoy stories. Showing children that you can ‘read between the lines’ will help them to appreciate stories on a deeper level. While it is not necessary for children to know the difference between inference and deduction, it is useful for teachers to understand the distinction.
