Magical ideas

Let children's imaginations run riot with this activity that's perfect for discussing where ideas come from.

One of author Clare Bevan’s ideas when she first started writing The Christmas Wish was to have a character called the Moon Hare. In the end, Moon Hare didn’t feature in the story but can you think of other characters that the Snow Goose might have met on his journey?

This is a good opportunity to talk about the fact that stories are often written and rewritten until the author is happy.

Ask the children to think about what their character might be like. Are they fierce? Are they friendly? What do they look like? Where might they live? Use this activity sheet to draw and/or write about them. You can either print out or display on the while board the words the children might like to use as inspiration.
